Collection consists of one volume recording the sale the sale of Kickapoo Indian lands by the railroad to white settlers between 1867 and 1876. The book was maintained by the railroad's treasurer, Ephraim H. Nichols.

The Atchison and Pike's Peak Railroad, also known as the Central Branch, was part of the Transcontinental Railroad. The Kansas territorial legislature awarded the railroad power to build from Atchison west to the Kansas-Colorado border in 1859, and tribal lands were secured for the railroad in an 1862 treaty between the Kickapoo and the U.S. government.
